The Outdoor Leadership Department at Southern Adventist University offers an experience in education that not only conveys information, but creates a lasting impression through hands on interactive programs. Trained facilitators guide students through the world’s largest classroom, the world itself. Allowing the students to experience the world around them not just read about it. The Outdoor Leadership Department conducts Outdoor Schools and Environmental Education programs throughout the South Eastern United States.

Every year all of the students, K-8, from Spalding Adventist Academy participate in grade specific intentional educational adventures. Currently the Outdoor Leadership Department at Southern Adventist University runs the 5th grade Outdoor schools for 3 separate Conferences of the Seventh-day Adventist Church; Carolina, Gulf States, and Kentucky/Tennessee. Each program is specific to needs of the teachers and the environment it is held in. Programs can last any where from an afternoon to a week long.

All of the programs sponsored by the Outdoor Leadership Department are designed with bigger picture issues in mind. Issues such as honesty and trustworthiness are nurtured and encouraged in a ways that allows natural consequences to teach and the participants to see just how important these issues really are.
