Undergraduate Programs

Southern's School of Education and Psychology offers students elementary and secondary programs that lead to teaching licensure. With a growing teacher shortage in both public and private schools, the future holds job opportunities for graduates at all education levels. In the greatest demand are elementary teachers of math, science, and language arts, and secondary teachers of math, physics, chemistry, and English.

Students interested in psychology can earn a B.A. or a B.S. degree. A psychology major is good preparation for future master's and doctoral study in many fields, including community and school counseling, clinical, industrial/organizational, and experimental psychology, marriage and family counseling, business, law, and medicine. Psychology is also a strong area to choose as a minor, since it complements many areas such as business, communications, social work, and marketing.

The School of Education and Psychology also offers a B.S. degree in Outdoor Leadership. This degree program prepares students for the profession of teaching in and about the outdoor environment. Graduates from this program work in parks, nature centers, summer camps, outdoor school, adventure business, and therapeutic outdoor programs.
